"When a Man's Education is Finished; He is finished"
The Active Directory group failed to synchronize with the Enterprise Resource Pool

Those who are working on administration part of Microsoft Project Server 2003 have seen this message many times and those who haven’t seen this message; I must say are the lucky ones.

Microsoft Project Server 2003 has this known issue and detail of hotfix to resolve this problem is available. However, this hotfix is not available for download. To get this hotfix you have to send an email to Microsoft stating your problem and if they feel that their hotfix is gonna fix your problem, the email it to you. The hotfix comes along with the following message:

Be aware that this hotfix has not been regression tested and should not be placed into a production environment without some trial testing. We recommend that you complete a backup of the system where the hotfix will be applied.

Message looks really scary when 300 users connect to Microsoft Project Server everyday and your company’s more than 30 projects are running on project server. It took me 6 months to decide whether I should install this hotfix or not?

What happens is on a fresh installation of Microsoft Project Server 2003, everything works fine but after sometime the manual active directory sync feature stops responding. Then again after sometime the automatic feature of sync stops.

Yesterday I made a decision to install SP1 and hotfix of MS Project Server 2003. It took me half an hour to install both. And when the installation was completed I manually sync the resource pool with active directory and it worked. I don’t know it was a good decision or not but it solved the active directory problem. And im not sure how many problems will be caused by this fix :)
