Wateen opens registration for WiMAX

After PTCL's Broadband, long awaited Wateen's WiMAX is finally being launched and they have started the registration process. I couldn't find the tariff rates since their TOLL FREE number was not free. From source

Be amongst the first 10,000 customers by registering online to receive a surprise gift from Wateen. This offer is valid until 30 September, 2007.

They have provided different options for choice of service. If you take a look at their registration form, you will find options like TELEPHONY,TRUE BROADBAND and TV/MEDIA.

I couldn't understand what did they mean by Telephony service here. Maybe Tariq or Babar bhai could shed some light?

Adnan - Good question. Telephony here is probably their voice over broadband? Or they could be thinking about bundling their mobile service with WiMAX. They should have explained it clearly!

Thanks for sharing the news.

I think by telephony they mean VoIP. They can offer inbound/outbound local/long distance dialing with all those VoIP features(Voicemail,3way calling etc)

Tariq Mustafa Bhai burs the bubble by saying that Wimax devices are very expensive so it means there are less chances that one could afford it individually but since wateen belongs to Abu Dhabi group which always believe in aggressive strategy, there will be no surprise if they supply cheap devices just for sake of capturing market.

maybe they can market it like DSL where they would sign a contract with you say for a year and pass the WiMAX equipment free of cost. Btw there are some rumors that their DSL will be priced at around Rs. 500 for 128Kbps with no limitations. Now if that is true it would be pretty awesome.
