Yahoo! finally released Yahoo Mail API in two different flavors, one is JSON-RPC based while other is SOAP based. Jeremy Zawdny of Yahoo officially announced the release of API. You can progeam your customize application in language of your choice which supports SOAP and JSON.

You can visit gallery of sample applications which can give you the idea about implementation of different APIs in your application. For instance this flickr integration with Yahoo Mail Further applications are/would be available in particular section of Yahoo! Gallery. Read further on Jeremy's blog where you would find more and mroe details ,screen casts etc.

Ryan Kennedy's discusses further about advantage of JSON over SOAP while implementing Yahoo Mail API in your applications. JSON rocks big time!

Oh, BTW, if you make some killer application and get successful to convince Premium users of Yahoo! mail then you would be awarded $10/user. Intresting stuff, No? :
