How to deal with recession-The Google way

Remember one and half month back I expressed my concerns about discontinuation of Google Lively? Finally I know the reason. Recession has hit Google as well. There is no concept of 20% anymore, well atleast till the things go well. They have closed their two offices.

But this is not something which sounds unique. What actually makes me to praise them that they are going to deal it very cleverly by empowering Google users to submit their ideas rather than asking their paid employees to spend time on something which currently Google can't afford.

From Sillicon Alley Insider:

We have to behave as though we don't know" what's going to happen, says Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt. The company will curtail the "dark matter," he says, projects that "haven't really caught on" and "aren't really that exciting." He says the company is "not going to give" an engineer 20 people to work with on certain experimental projects anymore. "When the cycle comes back," he says, "we will be able to fund his brilliant vision -Eric Schmidt

The Interface of Ideas system is quite sleek. It shows one idea at a time and can be skipped if you want to check next one. Now will it work? It already is. The current stats speaks itself: 835 ideas from 2,838 people. The reason is quite simple. Google has made us quite addicted to their products; be it simple search or emailing. We have already submitted ourselves to Google and we usually don't hesitate to provide any info to Google servers. You use your brain and let Google implement your idea(s). May be these are few things which make others to say: Google is evil :-)
