mySQL Takes More Memory

Dont beleive it? See it yourselves....

  • Both SQL Server and mySQL Server were hosting their default databases plus one database each for my application. At the time of snapshot; both servers were not handling any connections.
  • You are seeing two sqlservr.exe; as I am running two instances of SQL Server
  • Web Worker Process is taking more memory than Apache in the above snapshot :) but i am running more web applications under IIS than Apache..
  • This is my dev server and I am lazy that I am running most of my services under SYSTEM; but nothing much to worry; as its in DMZ!

not in my case
there is some issue with your installation, also i noticed that you are running instance of mysqld.exe rather mysqld-nt.exe,if you are on Win2k machine then you should run NT service, currenly

Mysql is taking ONLY 100K memory and
MSSQL server taking 16,224K

mysql isn`t bad:D

about above comment, yes I verified it. I have about 15 mySQL databases and about two or three MS SQL dbs. MySQL is taking about 1040K while SQL server is taking about 3376K (both servers are in cold state).

And I think SQL server does deserve to have this much memory - if we look at what kind of services it is providing :)

I have both MySQL and SQLServer on my machine but my case is some opposite to your case and same like Fahad and Adnan. MySql is taking low memory as compared to SQL Server in cold state. By the way, I also have mysqld-nt service running.

It's depends, MySQL is open source product and MySQL developers are working to improve performance on open source OS like XBSDs, Linux.
Although MySQL has been proven to be stable in the Windows operating system but still I will suggest better to use MySQL with Linux. In my case on FreeBSD myslqd memory consumption is
23708K. Uptime 6 months, not reboot.

# mysqld-nt Has Thinner Memory Footprint

In my earlier post; where I blamed mySQL to has fatter memory footprints, I received very informative...
