Managing file ACLs from the shell

Windows Resource Kit has lot of command line tools for system administrators. One such tool is CACLS.exe that can be used to manage ACL (Access Control List) of files and folders. One can easily use it in batch files to manage ACLs in bulk.

You can find a quick tutorial about it on this site. Here is the quick command to give particular user full access to folder and all the files and sub folders of that.

cacls c:\SomeFolder /T /E /C /G UserName:F

CACLS documentation is available here. Microsoft is also providing Extended version of this tool. FileACL is another open source command line utility for Windows to do the same.
